NordVPN starts its Black Friday promotion earlier than almost anyone else – in 2026 as early as 21 October, more than five weeks before the day itself. This analysis shows what the 2026 promotion really gets you, how it compares with last year and what to look out for before you sign up. It is based on NordVPN's pricing page and Black Friday page as well as dated reports from specialist media; it is not a test of our own.

Prices according to nordvpn.com (US dollar view, excluding taxes) and the reports cited, checked on 22 October 2026. Depending on your country, currency and taxes differ – the amount in your basket is what counts.

The 2026 promotion: period and prices

According to nordvpn.com/black-friday, the promotion runs from 21 October to 9 December 2026 (accessed on 22 October 2026). Black Friday itself falls on 27 November in 2026, Cyber Monday on 30 November.

It is advertised as «up to 78% off 2-year plans plus three extra months». On the pricing page, the 2-year plans with three extra months cost $3.49 (Basic), $3.99 (Complete) and $6.99 (Prime) per month – the full amount is paid upfront: $94.23, $107.73 and $188.73 for 27 months.

The 1-year plans also include three extra months during the promotion: $4.99 (Basic), $5.99 (Complete) and $8.99 (Prime) per month, which is $74.85, $89.85 and $134.85 for 15 months. The monthly plan stays at $14.99, $19.99 and $29.99.

No code is needed; the prices apply directly on the pricing page. According to the pricing page, all plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What really gets cheaper – and what does not

During the promotion, Basic costs exactly the same as before it: $3.49 per month, $94.23 for 27 months (nordvpn.com on 21 and 22 October 2026). If you only want the VPN, Black Friday 2026 saves you nothing.

Complete ($3.99 instead of $4.49 per month, $107.73 instead of $121.23 in total) and Prime ($6.99 instead of $7.49, $188.73 instead of $202.23) have become cheaper – $0.50 per month each, or $13.50 over the whole term.

On the 1-year plans, the monthly price has also dropped by $0.50 (Basic $4.99 instead of $5.49, Complete $5.99 instead of $6.49, Prime $8.99 instead of $9.49), and they now include three extra months. Basic therefore costs $74.85 for 15 months instead of $65.88 for 12 months – a higher total, but three months longer.

The «up to 78%» refers to the crossed-out amounts on the pricing page, and those correspond to the renewal price: for Complete, $493.83 for 27 months is shown crossed out, which is $18.29 per month – exactly the renewal price of $219.48 per year. The percentage has nothing to do with the price before the promotion.

Which prices will apply after 9 December 2026 is not known. Before the promotion, Complete cost $4.49 and Prime $7.49 per month (regular price before the promotion, nordvpn.com on 21 October 2026).

Black Friday 2025: period and prices

The promotion ran from 16 October to 10 December 2025 (BleepingComputer, 26 November 2025; Tom's Guide, 16 October 2025).

The 2-year plans were discounted, each with three extra months: Basic $2.99 per month ($80.73 for 27 months), Plus $3.89, Complete $4.89, Prime $6.89. This was advertised as «up to 77%» off.

It did not get any cheaper over Black Friday itself. On Cyber Monday, some media partners offered a fourth extra month at the same total price, which brought the calculated monthly price down to $2.88 (TechRadar, 1 December 2025).

According to Tom's Guide, the lowest price so far was $2.49 per month in November 2022.

2026 versus 2025: what has changed

Compared with Black Friday 2025, Basic has become more expensive: $3.49 instead of $2.99 per month, which is $94.23 instead of $80.73 for 27 months. Complete is cheaper ($3.99 instead of $4.89), Prime is $0.10 per month higher ($6.99 instead of $6.89).

The plans are structured differently from 2025; the Plus plan of that time is no longer listed. The prices of 2025 and 2026 can therefore only be compared directly for the Basic plan.

The period is similar too: in 2025 the promotion ran from 16 October to 10 December, in 2026 it runs from 21 October to 9 December.

Wait or sign up now?

The promotion is already running. Waiting for a further price cut did not pay off in 2025: it did not get any cheaper over Black Friday itself, only some media partners got a fourth extra month on Cyber Monday.

If you only need the VPN, the promotion brings you no price advantage: Basic costs the same as before the promotion. Sign up when you need it – not because a countdown is running.

If you signed up for Complete or Prime at the old price shortly before 21 October 2026, you can use the 30-day money-back guarantee and sign up again. Whether NordVPN refunds the difference on its own initiative is not documented.

Whether you need a VPN at all is covered in our guide: (→ Do you really need a VPN in 2026? The honest guide).

What to look out for before you sign up

The renewal is the expensive part. According to the pricing page, the Basic plan renews at $139.08 per year – that is $11.59 per month after $3.49 in the first term. Switch off auto-renewal in good time or make a note of the expiry date.

The percentages are not measured against the price before the promotion: the «78%» of 2026 comes from the comparison with the crossed-out amounts, which correspond to the renewal price; the «77%» of 2025 from the comparison with the monthly plan of $12.99 at the time. So compare the total amount for the whole term.

The monthly price is a calculated figure: you pay for the 27 months upfront.

Countdown clocks on the provider's website put you under pressure. According to NordVPN, the promotion runs until 9 December 2026; in 2025 the same price applied for eight weeks.
