Company profile

Holafly was founded in Murcia in 2017 by Pedro Máiquez and Yingyan (Lidia) Hu to spare travellers high roaming bills. According to a Holafly announcement of 29 September 2025, the company has since sold more than 15 million eSIMs and generated around $200 million in revenue in 2024.

The business model is deliberately simple: only unlimited-data plans priced by the day (1 to 90 days) instead of GB packages, for more than 200 destinations. Behind them are local partner networks. The travel eSIMs are data-only plans without a phone number; alongside them there is the “Holafly Plans” subscription for frequent travellers.

Practical points for travellers: prices are shown in euros (Swiss francs are also available), and there is 24/7 chat support. According to the terms and conditions, the contract partner is Holafly Limited in Dublin.

What users say

Trustpilot shows 4.7 out of 5 from around 115,000 reviews (as of 14 October 2026): 84% give five stars, 6% only one. That is the best public score among the large travel eSIM providers. Worth noting: Trustpilot states on the profile that it is working with Holafly and reviewing the profile because of earlier breaches of its guidelines.

Gelobt wird
  • Set-up via QR code in a few minutes
  • Stable connection in cities and tourist regions
  • 24/7 chat support that, according to Trustpilot, replies to 99% of negative reviews
Kritisiert wird
  • Hotspot limited to 1 GB per day – too little for a tablet or laptop
  • Dropped connections and complicated activation in some countries
  • More expensive than competitors' GB packages for light users

Alternatives, honestly rated

  • GB packages instead of unlimited, hotspot without a limit – for budget-conscious travellers and laptop users.
  • From Nord Security, Trustpilot 4.7 out of 5, GB packages and unlimited plans with unrestricted hotspot.
  • Sometimes cheaper on the ground – but in Turkey beware of the 120-day IMEI rule.

FAQ

Is Holafly legitimate?

Yes. Holafly has existed since 2017, has sold more than 15 million eSIMs according to its own figures and stands at 4.7 out of 5 from around 115,000 reviews on Trustpilot (as of 14 October 2026). You will find the details, prices and limits in our Holafly assessment (→ Holafly review 2026: prices, limits & honest verdict).

Is there a Holafly discount code?

Yes: with the code HERMESINVEST you get 5% off all Holafly eSIMs – code last verified on 16 July 2026. All verified offers are in the Holafly discount guide (→ Holafly discount code 2026: save 5% with HERMESINVEST).

What happens if something does not work?

The 24/7 chat usually helps quickly. As long as the eSIM has not been activated, Holafly refunds the full amount up to six months after purchase. After activation, Holafly decides case by case – so report connection problems in the chat while you are still travelling, not afterwards.

Who is Holafly not worth it for?

Light users and anyone who wants to feed a laptop or tablet via hotspot – the hotspot is limited to 1 GB per day. For them, GB packages from Airalo or Saily are the better choice (→ Airalo vs Holafly 2026: the honest comparison).

Is Holafly a subscription?

No – the travel eSIMs are one-off purchases for a fixed period, and nothing renews automatically. Only the separate “Holafly Plans” product is a subscription (from €45.95 per month, as of 14 October 2026).

Can I make phone calls with Holafly?

No, the travel eSIMs are data-only plans without a phone number – calls go through WhatsApp, FaceTime and the like. Your home number stays active alongside it (dual SIM).

When should I install the eSIM?

At home on Wi-Fi, before you leave – it is only activated at your destination. For Turkey this is actually essential, because the websites of many providers are blocked there (→ Turkey eSIM for long stays: mobile data for 4–8 weeks visiting family).
